CHANGING THE ATMOSPHERE

Today we’re looking at changing the atmosphere of worship. What does that mean? There may come a moment in worship where everything changes. Instead of repeating a chorus or bridge, you allow God to moves and use your abilities to conjure up something new, something fresh. A guitar player will play a completely new lead in that very moment, the drums will build and build until the church explodes with praise. It is hard to put into words knowing that the things in your set are shifting to suit what the Lord wants in that moment, but God is moving, the atmosphere has changed.

 Here are two ways to get here: one being sensitive to the Holy Spirit and what He may want to accomplish in the room through you and your team. The other being a practical perspective of a musician. 

We need to be attentive to the Holy Spirit at all times. It’s a minor job of multitasking, but it is a responsibility that we take up. Your instrument, your voice, your band, the church, His presence, all at once. Make sure you are prayed up, enter His presence on your own, before you enter a room where His presence needs to established. Walk in His presence prior and carry that with you onto the platform and lead the church into His presence. No matter what part you play on your team, pray and seek Him continually for your church. Praying together as a team can elevate what you can accomplish while in His presence. In sync with ears and hearts inclined together to flow and get caught up in what the Lord is doing and giving Him the avenue to move and have His way, using us as vessels.
 
With musicians, it takes a good eye and ear to know what’s happening with each other on stage. Keep an eye on your worship/song leader for cues to keep playing, to bring it down, build it up again. The limits are off when the Lord decides to have His way, and we can carry that in with our instruments and voices. But, make sure what you are doing fits what is going on in the room. Make sure your leads are flowing and gelling with the rest of the team, don’t overdo it. This goes for all instruments, BE SENSITIVE. Your instrument can easily shift things in the room, there are times the drums need to be showcased or a guitar. This all depends on what is happening in that moment. One last time (say it with me) BE SENSITIVE.
